Frequently asked questions about private tutoring with Jennifer Donaldson
Students in grades 3–10 are my specialty, but I also support high school and college students with reading, writing, planning, and study skills. I also work with ESL teens and adults, and I coach those wanting to start their own tutoring businesses.
Tutoring is virtual, so we can work together from anywhere with an internet connection. In-person tutoring is not offered at this time.
Growth in confidence, improved skills, and better academic performance are the goals for tutoring. There are no guarantees for success, though. Progress depends on background, consistency, and work. Each student should put in the work necessary to grow and improve. Every student is different, but I aim to make learning fun and effective. I want parents and students to smile more and sigh less.
ESL tutoring is for teens and adults in A2-C2 (high beginner – intermediate), and we do conversational English practice. Learn more here. https://tailorjoy.com/esl-tutoring/
Most clients have tutoring one to two times a week for 55 minute sessions. Occassionally clients might want more sessions for ongoing homework support or a big project.

We start with an opener (a question, riddle, or puzzle) for a few minutes. Then we move on to check homework lists, agendas, and grades. Next we work on skills, schoolwork, and sometimes reviews. If there’s time we do a short read aloud or math minute practice before closing. Usually students tell me that can’t believe the time goes by so quickly!
Let’s talk about what your student needs and how I can help.
