If you are taking other courses, this is a good way to practice what you are learning in a safe and supportive space. You will get specific feedback and individual language practice in every session. If there are specific things you want to practice, such as public speaking or talking to a school teacher, we can practice those.

Group Tutoring:

8:30 am EST Everyday English (4 students only – $150/week each student )

4:30 pm EST Short Stories (4 students only – $150/week each student)

Client will attend 5 days in a row at the same time for one week.

Frequently asked questions about private ESL tutoring with Jennifer Donaldson

What age students do you take for ESL/EFL/ELL tutoring?

ESL tutoring is for adults in A2-C2 (high beginner – intermediate), and we do conversational English practice. Sometimes I tutor teens or college students who are actively wanting to improve their conversational English.

Do you offer in-person tutoring sessions?

Tutoring is virtual, so we can work together from anywhere with an internet connection. In-person tutoring is not offered at this time.

What is my English level?

It is ok if you do not know your level. I will have a conversation with you to assess your conversational English skills and see if conversational English tutoring is a good fit for you. I usually tutor high beginner to intermediate level A2-C2.

Do I need to live in the US?

Tutoring is virtual, so we can work together from anywhere with an internet connection.

What kind of results can we expect from tutoring?

Growth in confidence, improved skills, and better speaking performance are the goals for tutoring. There are no guarantees for success, though. Progress depends on background, consistency, and work. Each student should put in the work necessary to grow and improve. Conversational English tutoring usually works best for clients who are already enrolled in English courses and need one-on-one practice for improved skills. Every client is different, but I aim to make learning fun and effective. I want clients to smile more and sigh less.

Do I need a computer or smart phone?

Online tutoring works best on a laptop, desktop, or tablet computer. A smartphone screen is a bit too small to read the shared slide presentation. Clients will also need a web camera and a microphone for the Zoom calls.

How often do clients have tutoring sessions?

Most clients have tutoring one to two times a week for 55 minute sessions.

What happens during a typical tutoring session?

We start with an opening question for a few minutes. Then we move on to talk about English conversations in the past week. Next we work on conversational English on a particular topic. If there’s time we do a short read aloud practice before closing. We close with a quick review and optional homework assignments. Usually clients tell me that can’t believe the time goes by so quickly!

Do you offer group tutoring or small classes?

We can create a group session if there are 2-4 clients of similar speaking abilities who want to work together for at least 4 sessions. This can work well for coworkers who want Business English practice. Email me if you have a group you want to put together. $25-45 per person for 55 min. sessions.
