About Jennifer Donaldson, founder and educator at Tailor Joy LLC
Certified Teacher. Online Tutor. ESL Tutor. Entrepreneur. Tailor of Joy.
If you’re here, you probably care deeply about education — whether for your child, yourself, or your students. So do I.
I’m Jennifer Donaldson, founder of Tailor Joy LLC, a North Carolina–certified teacher with over 30 years of experience in education. I hold a Bachelor of Science degree in English and Psychology with teacher certification, and I am also TEFL-certified with concentrations in online tutoring and Business English.
Throughout my career, I have taught elementary school in multiple states, substituted at every grade level (including special education), written curriculum, tutored privately, and taught adults. Today, I work primarily as an online tutor, serving both school-aged students and adult learners from my home in Apex, North Carolina.
I provide:
- Online academic tutoring for students in grades 3–10
- Conversational English support as an experienced ESL tutor for adults
- Business coaching and training for teachers starting their own tutoring or coaching businesses
- And because you never know when you might need one, I’m also a notary in North Carolina
My Passion and Work
For Parents: Academic Support That Builds Confidence
As an experienced online tutor, I help students strengthen reading, writing, study skills, organization, and critical thinking.
Is your child working hard but not seeing results?
Are study habits disorganized?
Has confidence quietly slipped?
My approach is personalized and practical. I don’t just help with homework, I teach students how to think, organize, advocate for themselves, and approach learning with clarity. I specialize in strengthening foundational literacy, writing structure, and study systems that serve students long-term.
My favorite moment? When “the light comes on,” when confusion turns into understanding, and a student realizes, “I can do this.”
For Adult Learners: Conversational English with Purpose
As a certified TEFL instructor and weekly volunteer at a local ESL program, I work as an ESL tutor with adult learners from many different countries who want practical, confident communication.
Whether you’re preparing for workplace conversations, daily interactions, or business communication, our sessions focus on real-life fluency, not just grammar rules. My goal as your ESL tutor is to help you speak clearly, think confidently in English, and engage naturally in conversation.
For Teachers: A Sustainable Path Forward
I didn’t leave education; I redesigned it.
When aging parents needed more care, I stepped away from the traditional classroom before retirement. But I still needed income and purpose. So I built my own tutoring business.
Now, as an online tutor and teacher mentor, I help other educators do the same through Business Basics, my step-by-step course for teachers who want flexibility without leaving the profession they love.
Schools need good teachers. But if your current structure isn’t sustainable, there is another way.
The Heart Behind Tailor Joy
“Tailoring joy” means intentionally noticing the good in everyday life, even in busy or difficult seasons.
As a wife, mom, grandmother, caregiver, and educator, I understand the realities families face. I set my tutoring schedule by semester, work around family commitments, and believe learning should build confidence, not pressure.
Families choose Jennifer Donaldson, online tutor and ESL tutor, because of:
- 30+ years of classroom and tutoring experience
- North Carolina teacher certification
- TEFL certification in online tutoring and Business English
- Clear communication and structured systems
- Individualized instruction
- A calm, encouraging presence
Education is serious work. But it doesn’t have to feel heavy.
Let’s help your child — or you — move forward with clarity and confidence.
