Rhythms of a Happy Home: Building Stability as a Married, Working Woman

building stability at home

What habits in your home build stability?

Nina invites us into the rhythms that help her balance work, marriage, home life, and rest. Her story is a beautiful reminder that building stability doesn’t happen by accident—it’s built one intentional habit at a time. Read her post for rhythms that bring grounding and joy to busy homes.

Rhythms of a Happy Home: Stability as a Married Working Woman

My name is Nina, and my husband’s name is Ian. We met at the University of Maryland back in August 2021, and a few years later, in January 2024, we got married! This past June, we packed up and moved to Raleigh because Ian got accepted into Shepherd’s Theological Seminary (he’s studying pastoral ministry).

This new season has been full of big changes — new city, new school, new job, new friends, and a whole new rhythm of life. Ian’s schedule is packed with reading, writing, studying, classes, and church, so our days look a lot different from how they used to.

Building Stability

Even with all the busyness, we’ve been learning what it looks like to create a happy, peaceful home in the middle of change. Here are a few ways we’ve been building stability lately:

  • Studying Scripture together twice a week
  • Praying together in the morning, at meals, and before bed
  • Keeping a shared calendar and updating it weekly
  • Meal prepping every Saturday (saves us time and money!)
  • Having monthly budget meetings with our spreadsheet
  • Finding free things to do around town (we love “Triangle on the Cheap” emails)
  • Watching football together
  • Using car rides as connection time
  • Doing DIY projects together — furniture, apartment decorating, you name it
  • And even doing a little side hustle — every other week, we clean someone’s house together

It’s definitely been an adjustment, but we’re finding that joy doesn’t come from having life perfectly balanced — it comes from being intentional;  building stability, even in the chaos.
